Nevada Bill Tries to Stop Damage of Foreclosures
In times of foreclosure, some home owners decide to take out their rage on the home, damaging walls or windows and even removing and stealing appliances. The damaged properties not only hurt resale values but also can become neighborhood eyesores.
Nevada, which for the last four years has had the highest foreclosure rate in the country, is cracking down on home owners who want to harm their foreclosed upon homes. A new bill proposed Monday by the Nevada State Assembly would allow authorities to charge home owners who willfully damage a home during the foreclosure process with a felony.
If approved, the bill would apply to anyone who occupies a home--whether borrower or tenant.
The bill has been referred to the state judiciary committee for further consideration.
